Hi! This week was pretty good. We had our MLC meeting again and it was good to see some mission friends. Also our mission President quoted Nacho Libre so that was pretty funny. Elder Brown and I are having a lot of fun and still having some good success. It’s crazy it’s already September! Today for pday we played basketball, golfed, and played pickleball, so it was a fun filled day. We’ve been able to get out and talk to people on the streets more this week. We spent some time on the Penn State Altoona campus and it just happend to be the first week of school and there were a bunch of people signing up for clubs and stuff. So we walked around and it was super successful talking to a bunch of people. I think they thought we were just another club so people were a lot more open and a little nicer than usual, Haha!
We had some sad news this week in the ward. One of the member’s sons passed away from cancer on sunday morning. That family came to church that day still, and was able to give the news. It was pretty sad during church everyone was very emotional. We had the opportunity to see him many times in the last few months and even gave him a blessing about 2 weeks ago. I’m grateful for Gods eternal plan, that we can see and be with our loved ones again after this life because of Jesus Christ. He overcame physical and spiritual death and made it possible for us to do the same. He is the only lasting light in this world. The ones who were hurt by the passing of this son felt the most peace in their knowledge of this plan and in Jesus Christ. We will live again, I know that. I also know we are meant to have joy and I believe that kind of joy is beyond what we comprehend as joy in this life. The only way to have lasting joy, peace, a sense of purpose and hope is through following Christ’s example and loving as he would. There is no other way. Every righteous desire and need that we have can and will be met if we live faithfully. God will make much more of our lives than we ever could. I know these things to be true. The way I see it, despite all the craziness of the world today, there is still so much good around us. You just have to look for it. I heard this quote the other day and it says “when we are running from the darkness, we have fear. When we are running towards the light, we have peace and hope.” I guess I invite you to think about which way you are running. For me running towards the light is a lot more fun! Have great week. Read the Book of Mormon. Have fun! Love, Elder Souza
